So Much Sense
04:05
|
|||
I'm gonna sacrifice myself to appease myself
I'm gonna go out and kill my kid to teach others how to live
I'll ask you to drink my blood so you remember love
And I'll threaten you with fire so you know who to trust
It all made so much sense in the thick of it
I created the universe and everything in it
Still I'm very concerned with what you do when you're naked
I gave you half a brain then told you not to taste it
So if you find you don't believe it's probably best to fake it
It all made so much sense in the thick of it

One Man Marching Band
04:40
|
|||
If it's all the same, I was kind of having fun
Marching to the beat of my own drum
But you've got the truth, and you have the way
And you've got a song you'd like me to play
In his royal marching band
Well I guess there's no one stopping you
But as for me, I've got better things to do
'Cause I'm gonna live, and I'm gonna sing
But it won't be for your king
'Cause I'm a one man marching band
Yeah I'm a one man marching band
And when I sing my final song
Stepping into the great unknown
I'll go as a one man marching band
Yeah I'll go as a one man marching band
Well it's true that nothing lasts forever
But maybe you and I could sing this one together
I'll sing ooooh, ooooh oooh yeah
I'll sing ooooh, ooooh oooh yeah
While you sing hallelu, hallelujah
Hallelu, hallelujah
Hallelujah

See My Mama Someday
04:32
|
|||
Found myself in a seedy bar in a worn out part of town
Filled with smoke and lonely folks whose lives had let them down
The woman sitting next to me just laid her mother in the ground
She dreamed of heaven, a happy place where her loved ones could be found
She said
I wanna see my mama someday
I wanna see my mama someday
She asked if someone's up there keeping an eye out for us all
I said I don't believe in god but I understand the draw
I told her how my grandma died in a hospital nightgown
And I never got to say goodbye 'cause I was off in a college town
And I wanna see my grandma someday
Yeah I wanna see my grandma someday
She took a drag off her cigarette and asked me why I don't believe
I cited lack of evidence and the evil that I see
She confessed she hadn't been to church now going on ten years
Said she just couldn't bear the sound of hypocrisy and fear
But I still wanna see my mama someday
I still wanna see my mama someday
I said well isn't it convenient? Ain't it just too easy?
That everything I want is up there waiting just for me?
And if this is our only life don't let it pass you by
Live every single moment like you know you're gonna die
She tried to force a smile as tears rolled down her face
She stood up off her bar stool and gave me a long embrace
It seemed like an eternity before she finally let me go
Said, "Thank you for your honest words, they helped me more than you can know."
She wants to see her mama someday
She wants to see her mama someday

The Skeptic
04:17
|
|||
You told me one time you had seen a ghost
It took the form of what you fear the most
You're sure you know exactly what you saw
And in your mind there is no doubt at all
I won't deny your experience
For once I had them too
In a world so mysterious
So obtuse
You told me once how god had changed your heart
But how much did your own mind play the part?
I won't deny your experience
Still I must ask why
In a mind less mysterious
Demons die?
I once woke to writing on the wall
When I flipped the switch it was nothing at all
So am I a slave to experience?
Should I even try
To ask a world so mysterious
Why?
I won't deny your experience
Still I must ask why
In a mind less mysterious
Demons die?
You told me one time you had seen a ghost...

Doubt
04:03
|
|||
We both looked up at the same sky
But only one of us wondered why
Because curiosity can't be found
When you've got answers that came from the clouds
You said "Nail me up on that tree
I'm a sinner. Please, please, please... save me."
But the only thing you crucified was your mind
I wish I could talk to you way back then
Not as your enemy but as your friend
'Cause you'll be wandering from coast to coast
Looking for answers from a holy... ghost
But you'll find love in uncertainty
If you just think. Please, please, please... just think
That the only thing you'll crucify is your mind
I know it seems in your best dreams
There's a path that lies beyond
It seems to me it's a mystery
Though I suspect there's not
So just think. Please, please, please... just think
